Autism Social Group 4/11
The lift picked us up and took my brother Dave and me to the autism social group. When we first got there, we were greeted with the staff saying hi to us, and I ended up showing Mrs. Mandy our autobiography titled The Brown Side of Autism: Our Brilliant Journey Through Color, Culture, and Clarity, and she had given me a high five, which felt good to me because it made me smile. For lunch, we had hot dogs and fries. In our autism social group, we usually play games/activities, and for our first game, we played Blankslate. So Mrs. Ashley showed us a word, and it was mouth, and basically, the goal is to finish the rest of the word. Whoever has the same word as the other person gets a point. So for me, I put mouth breather, and Dave put mouthguard, so as a team, we didn’t get any points. For the next word, it was car, and four people out of our team, which we were team 2, I wrote down car wash, and so did my brother. The next word was country, and we both put down Country Crock, which is a brand name for butter 🧈. Mrs. Ashley said how do you guys think of the same words, and we said “we are twins.” For the next phase of the game, we had to think of a word that goes before, so the next word was a word that begins before brush, and I immediately thought of hairbrush. Five of us out of 6 thought of hairbrush. In the end, we had 39 points. My brother and I wanted to play Wii sports, and it immediately brought back nostalgic memories from when we used to play when we were about nine/ten years old. But we didn’t get to play it. David was able to play bowling for a little bit. As always, it was a fun Saturday social group activity day for a Saturday.

Today on this Saturday morning, my brother Daniel and I took the lift to our social group
at the Autism Society. When we got there, we were greeted with staff and our peers that were also coming inside the building before we picked up our name tags and went into the room with the staff and the rest of the group. We had introduced one of the staff
members named Ms. Mandy, our new book
that we published just yesterday called “The Brown Side of Autism,” and they were very excited about it. They congratulated us and wanted to know more about the publishing process, so we told them a few things before we got started to play a few games.
We had eaten some lunch: we had some hotdogs, fries, and some Huggie Juice.
After everyone got done eating, we played a game called “Blank State” where everyone had a whiteboard and a black marker with a dry eraser, and the players had to guess the second word after the first one is called out.
For example: “Hot ___” or “Air ______”
It was a very fun game. We had played a couple of rounds and we ended up winning the game. We had 39 points. We had beaten Team 1 and Team 3. Then after that, the staff had brought the Wii console out, which brought back nostalgia and memories that my brother and I had shared when we were 9/10 years old. We both really wanted to play.
But everyone had a turn, plus we were running out of time as it was time for us to leave in a little bit. But I ended up playing bowling for a little bit, and it brought joy to me and it put a smile on my face. And as always, we had fun today, especially on a Saturday afternoon when the sun is out ☀️
